maqbool
blind faith , blind love is dangerous.
but at the end there is no love no faith , only obsession and ego. love and faith are human constructs , whats real is a man's ego and his obsession for possession ! misplaced realities of these things lead to disastrous consequences.
maqbool beautifully, very powerfully brings out these kind of concepts. macbeth is honored to have given inspiration to such an amazing movie, the characters breathe life into shakesphere's 16th century text !
powerful and amazing and deep performances by pankaj kapoor, tabu , om puri and shah .... though sometimes i felt irfan khan was lost, trying to cope up with the character that he was playing or maybe thats how the character is intended to be. but i think the credit rests with the director, how does he get the best from these actors, the way they talk, act , look ... the eyes in this movie conveys a hundred different emotions and passions.
the ability of what one thinks is love can change the best of man, can lead the strongest of men to act in ways they can only be ashamed of. maqbool is the story of emotions put to test , the story of a man who is caught between the deep love he experiences for a woman and the loyalty that his conscience demands for his master. the story of a woman who eggs, prods and manipulates a man to make him hers ... the couple whose innocent and sincere feelings for each other are caught in the crossfire of higher stakes , the two policemen who provide the insight and anecodates at important points of the film and finally the grand old man who controls all that he can see ! its a movie that has to be seen for the sake of the gripping drama.

Enthiran : review
I cant start writing about the movie without talking about 'the' Rajinikanth. Indians have a propensity for exaggeration, unabashed devotion which clearly benefits Rajinikanth. and to be respectful to all the fans, this movie was very much devoid of the antics, style and the trademark movements/dialogues which generally characterize his movies. Dont get me wrong, i know there were a few here and there but nothing of that magnitude which would make one hold his head in despair. Rajinikanth's acting was well within his limitations, no overly intense emotional requirements, no prabhu deva style dances and believe it or not no out of the world impossible action stunts.
and you will ask why , the answer is Chithi , the robot !! All the above things used to make Rajini superhuman, but now with a robot in the movie the director could ill afford to do that. There should be a difference between Rajini the human and Rajini the robot :P !
anyways coming to the movie, personally i would give credit to the graphics team and Shankar. For the first time, among any indian movies the graphics are realistic , truly realistic for such great magnitudes. Thats what strikes through the movie, everything at a large scale but yet quite realistic. Aishwarya rai, as is every indian actress in most of the indian movies is condemned to provide eye candy and she definitely does not fail to do so. I havent seen a hotter Aishwarya rai for sometime now ! The other characters dont inspire much anyways, not given much time to exhibit any acting powers. Though the person that stands out is Danny Denzongpa, classic example of powerful acting even though there is not much time for him on screen. The two "deputy guys" are caricatured into something laughable and 5 year olds could have done that job.
Personally i dont see what Rajnikanth brings into the movie, i would say anyone else would have done as well if not better. There was a striking scene, the scene where the robot is torn apart by his mentor and one could not see the emotion at all in Rajnikanths acting. It was really flat, these are the times in the movie when a powerful performance makes a difference and he completely fails. The villian Rajnikanth is somehow annoyingly good, it does require a decent acting skill but suddenly i think the Robot becomes completely human. We could expose some holes, one noticeable fact that here we have the scientific community making impressive progress in the development of a Robot but for the major part the society around it seems unaffected by the achievements, the police use the same old guns etc while the robot has next generation equipment. A little hard to believe. The environment has to be made realistic to reflect the presence of a Robot !
Coming to the story line , i was pleasantly surprised .. the movie is more about the Robot so one cannot be harsh on the story. But the usual Love is somehow infused as the main theme of the movie. The songs are visualized beautifully (for 200 crores it better be !) though musically i would pass ! The first half was good , however the second half somehow dragged a little too much.
To end it I think this movie is neutral nothing for the true Rajini fan to celebrate (any hero could have done it !! ) nor for the anti Rajini fans (its not the typical Rajini movie !! ), good concepts, idea about impacts of robots in society, acting really not much to talk about , brilliant graphics. Should watch it as a movie not necessarily a Rajini movie.
